How the Quran Was Preserved

The Quran was preserved through two parallel channels: memorization by the companions and writing on parchment, bone and palm branches during the Prophet's ﷺ lifetime.

Under Abu Bakr (RA), the written records were compiled into a single collection, and under Uthman (RA), standardized copies were sent to the major cities. Alongside this, an unbroken chain of memorizers (huffaz) has carried the text to every generation — exactly as Allah promised: "Indeed, We sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will preserve it" (15:9).
