An early-Makkan surah sworn by the scattering winds: the promise of judgement is true. It recalls Ibrahim's honoured guests and the fates of the peoples of Lut, Pharaoh, Ad and Thamud, and states the purpose of existence: 'I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.'
