An early-Makkan surah with the Quran's longest opening series of oaths โ the sun, the moon, the day, the night, the sky, the earth, and the soul and Him who proportioned it: 'He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who corrupts it.' Thamud's hamstringing of the she-camel stands as the warning of a soul corrupted.
