1. Surah Al-Fatiha (الفاتحة)
Revelation: Makki (revealed at Makkah) · Ayahs: 7
Introduction — from Tafheem-ul-Quran
Revealed in the earliest period at Makkah, Al-Fatiha is a prayer that Allah Himself taught to all who begin the study of His Book. It is placed at the head of the Quran as a du'a for guidance, and the whole Quran that follows is the answer to that prayer: the servant asks for the straight path, and the Lord presents the entire Quran as its detailed map.
Condensed from Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi's introduction to this surah in Tafheem-ul-Quran.
