An early-Makkan surah sworn by the dawn and the ten nights. Ad of the pillars, Thamud who hewed the rocks, and Pharaoh of the stakes all transgressed โ and your Lord is ever watchful. Man is honoured with wealth and thinks himself honoured; tried with less and says his Lord humiliated him โ but the real test is honouring the orphan and feeding the poor. It closes with the call to the reassured soul: 'Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing.'
